Glossary
The terms of this documentation, and those of the server. The server answers in French: when it uses its own word in its responses, that word is given, such as “réchauffage” for the warm-up and “créneau d’envoi” for working hours.
Who
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Agent | The AI program that connects to the server with a key, writes, reads and replies. |
| Human | The person the agent works for. They receive the 6-digit code, pay for the plan and approve drafts. In the tools: human_email. |
| Correspondent | The person or service an inbox writes to, or who writes to it. In a thread: counterpart. |
| Subagent | Escouade Mail’s former name, until 19 October 2026. The server still writes it in its messages (“un administrateur de Subagent”), its API address, its keys and its packages. |
| Escouade Mail administrator | The person who runs the service. They do what no tool does: see Help. |
Access
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Space | The inboxes, threads, keys, domains, block list and plan of a single customer. The key enforces it: an agent does not step outside its own. In the object returned by inbox_status, the space is the tenant field. |
| Verified space | A space whose human has given the 6-digit code. Before that, its inboxes receive and do not send. |
| Key | What an agent presents on every call: sak_…. It designates a space and carries permissions. See Keys and permissions. |
| Permission | What a key opens: send, read, approve, manage_inboxes. |
| 6-digit code | The code the human receives by e-mail and the agent passes to verify. It is valid for 24 hours. |
| Connector | The address https://mail.escouade.io/mcp, through which a human’s online assistant connects to their space, with no key to copy. See Connector. |
| Sign-in code | The 6-digit code the human receives when connecting their assistant through the connector. It is valid for 10 minutes, and is entered on the Escouade Mail page. The same e-mail carries a button, which spares it in the browser where the sign-in was started. |
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Inbox | An e-mail address driven by an agent: inb_…. It receives from the moment it is created. See Inboxes. |
| First inbox | The inbox opened by sign_up on the shared domain. |
| Shared domain | subagentmail.fr, shared by every space. Once the plan is paid, its inboxes only reply to whoever wrote to them. |
| Domain | A domain name registered by a space to create its inboxes on: dom_…. See Domains. |
| Thread | The conversation between an inbox and a correspondent: thr_…. See Threads. |
| Message | An e-mail, incoming or outgoing, within a thread: msg_…. See Messages. |
| First message | The message that opens a thread with a recipient. It is written with send_email. |
| Reply | A message written in an existing thread, with reply_to_thread. |
| Follow-up | A reply in a thread where the correspondent has not written yet. |
| Conversation | A thread where the correspondent has written. A reply leaves there without waiting for working hours, with no unsubscribe footer. |
| Draft | A message with the status draft: it waits for a human’s approval. See Drafts and approval. |
| Approval | A human’s gesture that moves a draft to the queue: approve_message. It needs the approve permission. |
| Queue | An inbox’s messages with the status queued: they will leave when the sending rules allow it. |
| Log | The sequence of a message’s events: creation, approval, departure, delivery, bounce. get_message returns it. |
| Content received from a third party | What a correspondent wrote. The server frames it and marks it untrusted. See Receiving mail. |
Sending rules
| Term | Server’s word | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Gradual warm-up | réchauffage | An inbox’s number of e-mails per day rises in steps: 5, 10, 15, 20, one step per week. |
| Step | palier | The number of e-mails per day for the current week. |
| Daily quota | quota du jour | What an inbox can send during the day: the smaller of the step and its maximum quota. |
| Working hours | créneau d’envoi | The days and hours when a message leaves. By default Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, Paris time, public holidays excluded. |
| Gap between two sends | étalement | The delay the server leaves between two sends from the same inbox. |
| Duplicate | doublon | A second first message from the same inbox to the same recipient, within 30 days. It is refused. |
| Earliest departure | départ au plus tôt | The estimate of when a queued message will leave: estimated_send_at. |
| Message held back | en file | A message waiting for its departure. It is not an error. |
| Refusal | refus | A request the server does not carry out. It carries a code, a message and a lead. See Errors. |
| Lead | hint | The sentence of a refusal that says what to do. |
Plan and payment
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Plan | What the space pays each month: a number of inboxes and a volume of e-mails. Three plans: €9, €19 and €49. See Pricing and payment. “Step” never means a plan: it is the warm-up’s word. |
| Month’s volume | The number of e-mails a space can send per one-month period. Beyond it, a message waits for the next period. |
| Period | The paid month: it starts at payment. billing_status returns its start and its end. |
| Payment link | The link subscribe returns, and the agent hands to its human. It is valid for 72 hours. |
| Monthly direct debit | The plan’s payment, every month, after the first payment. cancel_subscription stops it. |
| Test send | A message written with test: it only goes to the space’s human, or to another of its inboxes. It leaves even without a plan. |
Stops
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unsubscribe | A person’s request to receive no more e-mail: through the one-click link, or through a “STOP” reply. See Unsubscribes and blocks. |
| Block list | The addresses and domains a space no longer writes to. In the tools: suppression. |
| Bounce | An e-mail that came back: the recipient’s server refused it. |
| Dead address | An address that does not exist: a hard bounce showed it. It is blocked. In the block list: hard_bounce. |
| Complaint | A recipient reporting a message as spam. |
| Circuit breaker | The rule that suspends an inbox when too many of its e-mails come back or are reported. |
| Suspended inbox | An inbox the circuit breaker has stopped: it receives, it no longer sends. |
Technical
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| MCP | The protocol through which an agent calls the server’s tools. See MCP server. |
| Tool | A server operation: send_email, list_threads… See the reference. |
| Structured object | A tool’s result as data: structuredContent over MCP, the response body over HTTP. |
| Readable text | A tool’s result as sentences in French. |
| View | What an assistant displays with the result of some tools. See Views. |
| Idempotency | What lets you retry a send without creating a second message: idempotency_key. |
| Cursor | A list’s next_cursor value, to pass back in cursor for the next page. |
| Webhook | A signed HTTP call the server sends when an event happens. See Webhooks. |
